Divisions

Irvine Ranch Little League is divided into nine divisions within two divisional groups.  Depending on player enrollment for any given season, the league may combine divisions to create adequate team size and number of teams per division.  As an example, we may combine Rookie & A Ball to create enough teams to form the division.  The registration numbers and player safety will be the basis for combining divisions.  Fall ball allows players the opportunity to self-select the next division of play prior to the Spring regular season, assuming their participation in that division does not pose a safety risk.  The level of play in Fall Ball does not guarantee the level of play for the Spring season.  During the spring season, all players in competitive (upper) divisions are subject to the results of the player evaluation and draft to place them in a division that is appropriate to their skill level.

LOWER DIVISIONS - developmental playing divisions with a focus on core skill development.  Game results are not recorded, nor are divisional standings kept.

  • Ice Cream Division - the division is structured for players between the league ages of 3 ½ to 4 years old who have not played organized baseball.  There is a heavy focus on core baseball skill instruction and providing the players a fun environment to learn the game. Players hit off a tee, with all players batting in each inning to maximum their batting repetitions. Games are played on a field with 46-foot pitcher’s mound and 60-foot basepath.
  • T-Ball - the division is structured for players between the league ages of 5 to 6 who are new to, or have one year’s experience with organized baseball.  The division allows players new to game learn core skills, as well as allows returning Ice Cream players to mature their baseball skills. Players hit off a tee, with all players batting in each inning to maximum their batting repetitions.  Games are played on a field with 46-foot pitcher’s mound and 60-foot basepath.
  • Rookie Division - the division is structured for players between the league ages of 6 to 7 who have a year of T-Ball experience. This is a coach pitch division allowing players to learn the fundamentals of hitting by seeing a pitched baseball, as well as hitting off a tee.  The Rookie division introduces outs and continuous batting order to the games, which are played on a field with 46-foot pitcher’s mound and 60-foot basepath.
  • A Division - the division is structured for players between the league ages of 7 to 8 year old.  The division is ideal for 8 years old who are new to baseball or 7 years old who have a year of Rookie division experience.
